Since 1983, A.G. Maas has been a 100% women-owned business. Since that time, we’ve become WBE (Women Business Enterprise) certified. In fact, we were one of the first businesses in Indianapolis to gain that recognition – a distinction we’re extremely proud of.
When you work with a certified women-owned business, you’ll see a number of advantages that you otherwise might not have with other companies. In our most recent blog, the professionals at A.G. Maas discuss more about what a WBE business is and the benefits of working with a woman-owned business.
What Is Women Business Enterprise (WBE)?
WBE signals that a company is majority owned by a woman or women. Becoming certified comes with a number of advantages and benefits, such as access to new business and networking opportunities. Businesses which are WBE certified have met certain requirements by their city, state and the Small Business Association (SBA).
What Are the Benefits of Working With WBE-Certified Businesses?
Diversifying your suppliers
Many companies place high importance on ensuring that they have a diverse group of suppliers. By increasing your supplier diversity, you’ll be encouraging the growth of diverse and women-owned businesses. Supporting diverse businesses leads to greater social responsibility, and it also carries a number of economic benefits, including job creation, which can positively impact the country’s economy.
Promoting diversity, innovation and creativity
Everyone within an organization comes from different backgrounds with separate experiences and ideas. We believe that all ideas hold value, which is why it’s important that diverse, innovative, and creative ideas are fully allowed to be shared. When you work with WBE-certified companies and organizations, you’re promoting characteristics like these.
Showing a desire to work in diverse markets
Showing that your company wants to work with diverse businesses and organizations can positively impact your company in a number of ways. Not only will you create relationships with companies within diverse markets, but you’ll also attract talent that is interested in working for a company that is invested in the growth of women and minority-owned businesses.
What Is the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council?
Businesses which have gained WBE certification have undergone a rigorous certification process. In order to gain WBE certification, businesses must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 51% owned and controlled by women
- Have women manage the day-to-day operations of the company
- Have women make long-term decisions on behalf of the company
When these requirements are met by a business, they can apply for certification. The business will then be vetted and reviewed by their city, state and the SBA to ensure that all requirements are met.
